An Online Self-Paced Learning Environment for Training University Teachers in Assessment: Evaluation and Validation Process

Abstract:

The training and development of university lecturers’ competencies are of fundamental importance today (Felisatti & Perla, 2023). The PNRR (2021), the Yerevan Communiqué (2015), and the Bologna Process (2018) highlight the need to strengthen teaching skills to drive innovation in teaching and assessment methods. However, recent research in the Italian context (Epasto, 2015; Doria & Picasso, 2024; Grion & Serbati, 2019; Pagani, 2021) shows that university assessment practices remain anchored in traditional approaches, rather than embracing alternative methods that promote continuous, authentic, and process-oriented assessment (Al-Mahrooqi & Denman, 2018; Dochy et al., 1999). In this context, to support the training of university lecturers in assessment, a Self-Paced Learning (SPL) environment for university assessment training has been developed. This environment was evaluated using the Delphi technique, involving experts in the field to assess its applicability.
