Bridging the Boundaries of Learning: European Youth’s Experiences Across Formal, Non-Formal, and Informal Education

Abstract:

This contribution explores the findings of a phenomenological research investigating the trajectories of European youth engaged in public decision-making. Through in-depth interviews conducted with 26 representatives of European youth organisations, the study highlights how these young people attribute educational value to a diverse range of experiences that transcend traditionally recognised settings. However, these contexts are often rigidly compartmentalised, compelling young people to actively bridge the existing barriers. This analysis underscores the need for greater permeability between educational spheres, fostering a more integrated and inclusive recognition of learning experiences across different social and institutional spaces.
