Service learning in digital environments: opportunities for higher education from a systematic review

Abstract

There are many pedagogical research experiences that in recent years have focused on the educational value of Service Learning (SL), opening, heuristic glances to significant experiences in academia. A new line of research on the subject, looks at the intentional design of SL activities mediated by new technologies. This study collects and proposes a synthesis of three systematic reviews that investigate SL online in higher education. The objective is to examine the claims arising from the scientific literature regarding SL, offering a descriptive review with an aggregative purpose, and an interpretive and critical synthesis.
