Abstract:
Digital innovation is redefining the role of schools within the urban ecosystem, transforming them into distributed and participatory learning environments. Learning Cities are emerging as inclusive spaces where technology enhances access to education. However, their integration is hindered by cultural resistance, infrastructural disparities, and training deficiencies. The study, based on a survey of 1,544 Italian teachers from all school levels, highlights the need for a broader pedagogical vision, where schools evolve into hubs of educational innovation, overcoming the limitations of traditional teaching. The adoption of digital tools, if supported by targeted educational policies and adequate investments, can foster a more inclusive and sustainable learning model. To establish Learning Cities, an integrated educational governance is essential, centered on continuous teacher training and strengthened collaboration between schools, local communities, and institutions.
