What do students think of extremism? How do they behave? An exploratory research in the area of Brescia

Abstract:

The paper deals with a research aimed at investigating - through the collection of field data - students' opinions, perceptions and attitudes towards the different forms of extremism. This action is part of a broader action-research process targeted to schools belonging to the Brescia network "Educating about differences with a view to preventing and combating all forms of violent extremism". Thanks to the research "Knowing extremism to prevent it. Survey on students' perceptions” we want to make available and share data to improve awareness of the phenomenon and to guide the development of prevention and contrast actions. The survey - active from February to March 2023 - involved 16 schools of the network. For reasons of sustainability and opportunity, the survey - administrated through a semi-structured questionnaire - was addressed to some filter classes. The response rate to the questionnaire was approximately 50 % (1105/2300).
