The training citizenship plays an unavoidable role in the field of education and leads to a strict comparison between new challenges of globalization and migration and on the other hand the crisis of the nation-states and its traditional patterns. The values of the peace and cultural diversity must set up the ground of dialogic and  aware citizenship. In the essay the author, who contributed to the Guidelines on Education to the Peace and the Human Rights of MIUR 2007, takes into examination the recent rules of United Nations of Unesco and European Union regarding to the issues of Education and Cultural diversity and Human Rights. The article reconstructs the basic lines of the “invention of democracy”, with essential references to the history of political thought and, even more, the social actors (first of all the labor movement) that have supported and fed the democracy itself in the contemporary age.

Training and change. Experiences in Roman kindergartens
di , pubblicato il 2015-10-30
The involvement of teachers in training is essential to produce an expansion of their professionalism and an improvement of the education service. Give suggestions, requests to change the existing instruments is a delicate operation, because it does not impact only on the cognitive dimension of being professional, but invests the motivational aspects of self-efficacy and supporting the quality of its work.
Edusemiotics’ understanding of virtuality
di , pubblicato il 2015-07-30

At an educational level, technology and the digital gap are indeed a moving target. On the one hand, it is commonly regarded as vital to have access to and participate in information society. On the other hand, the mutable nature of the field and its derived problems prompt educational systems to hold out against change. In the meantime, virtuality, simulated environments, and digital thought are shaking up the way individuals and communities socially and cognitively interact with the world. Notwithstanding this, technology is not just a revolutionary drive; it is also an evolutionary force: its story tells us something about technological determinism. It is useful to understand what is currently occurring in order to decide in which ways education may prepare young people for nowadays’ challenges. That is, education needs not only to focus on IT literacy, but also on multi-faceted critical literacy. Edusemiotics understands sign as a third realm of our universe, and this novel conception provides us with the key to understand the digital world as a new and powerful educational resource for teachers and students alike. Our interest in virtual reality’s many forms rests with the fact they are tools that enable us to playfully develop and improve our knowledge, fantasy, self-determination, fitness, affordances, self-efficacy, social connectivity, and reading comprehension.

This article discusses the enhancement of the environmental awareness, considered as an important step in the promotion of respect for human beings and for nature. Many aspects are important in this perspective: sensibility in comprehending problems, and caring thinking (Lipman) oriented towards cooperation, sharing, and solidarity. Those elements contribute in offering answers to the issues raised by the “intoxication of civilization” (Edgar Morin). In order to overcome an intoxication – in terms of global warming, pollution, loss of biodiversity - caused by a disproportionate use of environmental resources, it is very important to work for a better quality of life. The theoretical discourse about raising environmental awareness is mainly focused on the thought of Daniel Goleman. A direct link between information, knowledge, actions, and behaviors is required. According to Chomsky, concrete actions affect and influence humanity. This article highlights the role of an education devoted to the enhancement of an environmental awareness, and the need of a moral responsibility.

The role of the conductor in the simulation games for learning geometry
di , pubblicato il 2015-01-20
Simulation games for learning geometry are learning environments purposely  designed,  and are being  experimented within a research project, that has been demonstrating their effectiveness. They offer a different learning and teaching system, that opens interesting spaces to be explored relating the role of the conductor and the implications for teacher’s training. The paper presents the theoretical and methodological aspects used as a basis to design the simulation games within a research project Similandia and describes their procedural architecture. On the basis of their specificity, it sketches the role of the conductor and analyses the principal functions of the leading for each phase. Task-oriented and relationship-oriented leadership are kept strictly integrated.
