Fragility inside and outside of school: countering young people’ risk behaviors through digital storytelling

Abstract:

This paper illustrates the activities carried out as part of the pilot project "Radicalization and Extremism in Adolescents and Young Adults," funded by the Fondazione CRT (Cassa di Risparmio Torinese) and launched between 2022 and 2023, thanks to the collaboration between the GRIST association (Italian Group of Study on Terrorism) and the Department of Philosophy and Educational Sciences of the University of Turin. The project implemented a digital storytelling activity with the primary objective of investigating, the presence of risk behaviors among students in two Turin schools characterized by socioeconomic and cultural differences. The results highlight the need for educational intervention that considers not only individual frailties, but also those of the school context, in which the educational balance between teachers and students must be enhanced as much as possible to work on issues of hatred, extremism and radicalization.
