A Toolkit for Designing Outdoor Education

Abstract:

This study investigates the potential of a Toolkit for the design of Outdoor Education paths for infant, primary and first-level secondary schools. The tool has been designed by a research group consisting of experts from different backgrounds (Indire, Università degli Studi di Bologna, Rete delle Scuole all'Aperto). The contribution illustrates the research and development process that, starting from its conception, led to the validation of the Toolkit. The tool has been experienced within several immersive workshops aimed at teachers of infant, primary and first-level secondary schools in order to encourage reflection processes on outdoor education approach and test functionality, flexibility and effectiveness with a view to its improvement. Subsequently, the Toolkit was refined with the aim of supporting educational and organizational innovation processes for the schools of “Avanguardie educative” Movement and “Scuole all’Aperto” Network.
