Designing inclusive outdoor play environments: an intersectional approach in early Childhood


Abstract

The creation of inclusive play environments represents a fundamental challenge for contemporary pedagogy, especially with a view to an intersectional education that recognizes and values differences in gender, ability, culture and socioeconomic background. In this context, outdoor play is configured as a privileged environment to promote inclusion, active participation and integrated development of children in the 0-6 age group. The contribution explores the potential of outdoor play as an educational and inclusive device, with particular attention to the principles of intersectionality and the importance of designing play spaces and practices capable of responding to different needs, enhancing bodily, emotional and social skills. The key elements for the training of educators are also discussed, called upon to design and accompany authentic playful experiences, respectful of diversity and promoters of equity.
