Abstract:
This contribution presents the findings of an exploratory survey conducted by the Apulian Universities (UniBa, Unisalento, UniFG) and the Regional School Office for Apulia. The survey was designed to ascertain the experiences and training needs of tutors who work alongside teachers newly appointed to the role. The principal objective is to gain insight into the multifaceted role of the tutor within the educational institution and to collate pertinent data for the development of efficacious research and training pathways. A total of 728 tutors participated in the survey, with 82.3% identifying as female and 70.5% having served for more than a decade. The questionnaire collected sociometric data and information on training paths, with a focus on the assessment of the tutors' perceived skills. The results indicate that 51.6% of the tutors are satisfied with their role, while 62.4% are highly motivated. Additionally, there was a clear desire for further training support in the areas of assessment and tutoring. Finally, the need for specific training to address the difficulties in supporting teachers with disabilities or DSA was highlighted. The research offers a comprehensive understanding of the needs and challenges faced by mentors of newly recruited employees, along with recommendations for targeted training interventions.
