Abstract:
This paper examines the role of continuous professional development in fostering the European Key Competences within formal, non-formal, and informal learning contexts, with a particular focus on the Learning Cities model. Conceived as inclusive and interconnected educational ecosystems, Learning Cities promote a lifelong learning paradigm that transcends institutional school boundaries, integrating cultural, social, and technological resources. Through a theoretical-critical analysis and the examination of innovative experiences, the study explores the strategies through which educators can act as mediators between heterogeneous educational environments, fostering a pedagogy of transition and the recognition of knowledge acquired in diverse contexts. The findings highlight the need for flexible and cross-sectoral training policies capable of supporting a teaching profession oriented toward lifelong and lifewide learning, thus addressing the educational challenges of contemporary society.
