From real play to virtual play in educational services for 0-6 years old: educational practices

Abstract

This article describes a theoretical and practical reflection on the use of games, gamification, serious games and simulations with nursery school children. These tools develop skills and competences, convey educational content, and promote learning, interest and engagement, especially from an inclusive perspective. They represent virtual learning environments in which children acquire knowledge by exploring and finding solutions. The international literature, which will be illustrated, supports the thesis that the use of games allows children to refine their perception, stimulate their attention and memory through learning by doing, and facilitates, develops, increases and matures the transversal skills of even very young children. The observation and training experience carried out in the field by the University of Sassari in three nursery schools in the province has led to the collection in a repository of the web apps used during the experience, which have proved to be among the most effective for use in early childhood education.
