The Learning City as sense of place and of the common good

Abstract:

The city that learns, or Learning City, represents an emerging paradigm of sustainable urban development, based on lifelong learning, social inclusion and innovation. This paper explores how the concept of the Learning City intertwines with the Leaving No One Behind principle of the United Nations Agenda 2030, placing emphasis on educational policies, civic participation and social cohesion. Through the integration of municipalist and participatory thinking, a vision of the city as a common good is proposed, capable of activating learning and regeneration processes. The work highlights the role of Learning Cities in promoting equality, resistance / community project planning and active citizenship, with the aim of building sustainable, democratic and participatory cities. The Learning City feeds on awareness, place consciousness and valorization of local identity. The Learning City cannot but be public and accessible.
