A life for a Free Palestine: an interview with Luisa Morgantini

Abstract

When we speak of Gaza, there is a before and after 7 October 2023. More than two years have passed since that terrible day, but the anguish remains the same; a tragedy is still unfolding, one which we describe, with shame and frustration, as ‘the genocide of the Palestinian people’. Faced with this shame, it helps to revisit the words of Don Milani, who, in his ‘Pastoral Experiences’, wrote: ‘Friends often ask me how I manage to teach. […] They are asking the wrong question; they should not be concerned with how one should teach, but only with how one must be in order to teach’. We speak to Luisa Morgantini: a life dedicated to defending the Palestinian people and the ‘Women in Black’; a tireless and far-reaching commitment to achieving peace, both as a citizen of the world and as Vice-President of the European Parliament and head of Assopace Palestina.
