Assessment and guidance: the central role of students

Abstract

The topic of assessment has always been central to pedagogical debate and internal discussions within educational institutions, as well as being a recurring subject of regulatory interventions and ministerial documents which, over time, have highlighted different aspects of it. In light of the numerous theoretical elaborations that have contributed to defining and redefining the construct of assessment over the years, in this essay we intend to analyse the evaluative dimension, focusing in particular on its orientative effect, which occurs to the extent that the evaluation process is supported by careful and methodologically rigorous planning of all its phases, thus constituting not only a moment of assessment, but also a device capable of guiding and directing learning and teaching paths.
